Goodbye Christmas.....and Hello Surgery.

The day after Christmas was a rude awakening for the Cease kiddos.  We scheduled outpatient surgery for them at the same time, on the same day. Caroline had her tonsils and adenoids out and John Collins got tubes in his ears and his adenoids out.  Crazy, huh? Our thought process behind this was that they were already out of school, Christmas actives were over, they would have lots of new toys to play with quietly indoors, and we were hopeful to get this done to prevent more illness in the winter months to come.  It was not a fun road, but one that was necessary to walk down. We are very glad it is over and we are on the other side!! We couldn't have asked for a better ENT than Dr. Shirley. He was kind and informative. He also met us at Children's hospital ER at 4am the night after Caroline's surgery for some unexpected fever, vomiting and bleeding. Looking back we think Caroline had the flu on top of her T&A. She was pitiful. Didn't talk or eat for almost one straight week.  She hardly ever complained, just laid around quietly and rested. John Collins however, bounced back within hours!
All smiles before surgery....
Not so much afterwards.....
When we got home we had the sweetest little visitors to brighten our day!
Even got a visit from the Doctor...
Then things took a turn for the worst when Caroline woke up with high fever and throwing up bright red blood during the middle of the night.....after hours of this at home, we decided it was time to head to the ER. Dr. Shirley met us there and we were monitored for awhile. Luckily we didn't have to go back into surgery to stop the bleeding and we got to go home. She was pretty sick and it was really scary. Praising God that everything turned out ok!
This is what she did for almost two weeks straight.....
Tried to lift our spirits by painting nails, putting on makeup and coloring our hair :)
Finally felt well enough to get out of the house for a lunch at Ashley Macs. Don't miss those earrings.....
Glad we won't ever have to do that again! And we've been much healthier since!
