Sweet Snaps

Wanted to share some sweet snapshots and moments that have accumulated over the past few weeks. Caroline Cate is growing and developing new {skills} everyday.  Can't believe we approaching three months. Time. Slow. Down.
10 weeks
She officially found her hands and fingers at 11 weeks and cannot keep them out of her mouth! She (finally) loves her play mat and rolled over once while she was lying on it. She (finally) started enjoying bath time this week and we've made it through 3 baths without shedding any tears.  She sleeps ten straight hours through the night (has since about 8 weeks old) and I thank her every morning when she wakes up ;)
11 weeks
She takes after her Momma and is becoming quite vocal. She is very attentive and loves for you to talk to her. Her smiles are becoming more and more frequent and we just cannot get enough of them.  She laughed out loud for the first time at 11 weeks on 5/25/15, the sweetest sound I've ever heard.
Posing with her baby doll.
Emme is either really jealous of baby sister or really loves her. It's still up for debate and we are hoping for the latter.
Watching TV, one her new favorite hobbies.
First time in her bumbo. She loved it and had great head control!  5/25/15
Play date with Charlotte on Memorial Day. 5/26/15
 Where's Caroline's nose?
Real life. Eating her gown and crying :)

San Diego May 2015

This past week we took our first family vacation as a family of three to San Diego!  Alan had a medical conference to attend so Caroline and I decided to tag-along. We debated long and hard about taking our 10 week old across the country. We decided it was too good of an opportunity to pass up and you only live once so, why not!?  I'm so glad that we decided to be adventurous because Caroline impressed us beyond belief at how well she traveled and adapted to life in a hotel room for four nights.  She was an angel. I probably said those words 100 times during the trip.  She LOVED the flights. She slept most of the time but when she was awake she laid very contently in my lap. We strategically picked seats towards the back of the plane and I think that the roar of the engine was very soothing to her.  We gave her a bottle at each take off to help her little ears and it seemed to do the trick.  She didn't cry the slightest whimper on all four of our flights. The flight attendants were bragging on her and she even earned her first set of "wings".
At the Jackson airport about to board her first flight!
So content in Mommy's lap during the flight.
**Travel tip: If you are flying with an infant, little footie pajamas are perfect for keeping their little feet warm and helping them stay warm and cozy throughout the flight without having to fight with a blanket in close quarters.

We stayed in the Gaslamp District of San Diego at the Westin.  It was a great location as there were over 100 restaurants within walking distance and a mall attached to our hotel!  We were so happy that Courtney, one of my dear friends and wife of another emergency medicine resident, was there to play with us! We had such fun "girl days" shopping and strolling while the guys were in conferences.
The first night we went to a delicious trendy restaurant, Seersucker. Afterwards we enjoyed a sweet treat at Ghirardelli's! If we look overly excited about digging into this dessert it's because we are. :)
Day two we brunched at Cafe 21, the yummiest breakfast spot on fifth avenue. The weather was so beautiful and we enjoyed sitting outside taking it all in. I sure wish I would've snapped a picture of my banana filled french toast. Heaven on a plate.
**Note Caroline's face. What happens when you stop to take pictures with a hungry baby.
San Diego Selfie ;) ;)
The biggest bummer about the trip was the weather. We luckily had two beautiful days (photo above), but the last two days were rainy and COLD.  The first thing everyone said when I told them we were going to San Diego was "Oh you have to go just to experience how perfect the weather is." Not too hot, not too cold, and always sunny.  Well, oddly enough it rained for two days non-stop and it was cold and windy.  We didn't let it get us too down. Caroline and I enjoyed extra snuggles in the hotel room and several photo shoots. We also may have ventured down to the hotel snack bar for treats more than once.
She must have seen her reflection and realized that her bow was as big as her head.
"Bow" big or go home!
Love those baby blues.
Our last night it finally stopped raining and we were able to attend a Padres baseball game! Alan and I enjoyed a big ole' ball park hotdog as we rooted for the home team. Caroline on the other hand slept the entire game in her sling.
Sweet and cozy in the sling.
**She's probably praying that we don't get nailed by a foul ball. We had third row seats from the field right behind third base, a very popular location for foul balls. Thankfully we left with only a couple of close calls and intact noggins!
Well, that wraps up a very abbreviated synopsis of our first family vacay. We are blessed with such a happy and content baby girl that made our travels much easier and smoother than anticipated! Now, where should we take her next!?

Mother's Day 2015

Mother's Day. A day so special yet filled with a multitude of emotions for many people. I am one of those people.  Last Mother's day my heart ached and longed to hold our first baby who went to be with our Heavenly Father way too soon. I knew even on that very dark day that the Lord had big plans for us. That His ways were good in all things and that we would receive our blessing in His prefect timing. Trusting that truth was hard. There were days of doubt and frustration. But holding steadfast to His word and praying without ceasing got me through each day. And now, on this Mother's Day, I am holding my brand new two-month old baby girl in my arms. God is good. All the time. We praise Him and thank Him for this gift of life.
Being a mother has surpassed all of my expectations. It is most gratifying and my heart has never been so full.  We took Caroline to church for the first time today.  As I held her in my arms during the worship service singing the popular tune "How Great is Our God" tears flooded my eyes as the words had never seemed more true.
After church we went to Keifer's, a local favorite, and enjoyed a delicious Mother's Day lunch.  Then Caroline and I got to spend the whole day with Daddy which is very unusual these days! It was a beautiful, perfect first Mother's Day that I will cherish forever.
And I couldn't write a post on Mother's Day and not mention this Momma. No words can describe how thankful I am for her.  I've always known that she was pretty special but since I have become a Mom myself, I have a whole new level of love and respect for her. She has always been my biggest fan pushing me to my fullest potential, wiping my tears when I'm sad, laughing with me till it hurts, and making sure that I have everything I could ever want. The past two months she has dropped everything and helped me when I needed her most. Her acts of kindness and selflessness are overwhelming. She has made the long 5 hour drive more times than I'm willing to admit to clean my house, feed us, take care of the baby, work in my yard, and countless other chores.  She's one in a million and I'm so glad she's mine.

Last weekend when we were in Birmingham we celebrated Mother's Day with Alan's family. We surprised his mom with a private dinner at Shoal Creek Country Club.  We had a delicious steak dinner and it was such a beautiful, peaceful night! We are so thankful for our Lollie and all she does for us! She loves me like her own and I am so grateful to have a mother-in-law like her!

Meeting and Greeting

Last weekend when Caroline was 8 weeks old we made our first trip to Arab. It was a quick day trip and we didn't get to see everyone that we would have liked to but we did get to spend some time at GG's house just lounging around.
Our favorite part of the trip was when Goosey stopped by!!! She is so so special to us and we LOVE her cuddles!
Caroline also got to meet two of my very best friends! Courtney has been my best friend since Freshman year of college. We lived together for two years and have so many great memories together.  She has one of the sweetest hearts I know and I am blessed by her friendship. It was so great to catch up over lunch and watch her love on my sweet baby.
Next Caroline got to meet Tessa, her new best friend! Tessa is the daughter of two of my dear friends from high school.  Megan and Scott are the best parents and Tessa is such a precious little girl. She is about to be ONE and I can't wait until we move back to Birmingham and these two little girls can have endless amounts of playdates. Oh and these two baby girls couldn't look more like their Dads!
Living 5 hours away from my hometown and 4 hours away from Alan's hometown and having my close friends and family scattered all over the USA (literally) it has been difficult for all our friends and family to meet Caroline.  Hoping to meet some more family and friends in the upcoming months!
